Here at Mitchell’s we believe building a sustainable business means looking at how we impact on the environment and our communities. In early September 2008, we launched an estate wide initiative throughout our managed houses in order to battle the ongoing constraints of environmental damage. ‘The Green Initiative’ is aimed at reducing the company’s overall usage of utilities and services by up to 25% by the end of 2009, with a mixture of both small changes and ambitious ideas. Our specially designated ‘Energy Committee’ comprising of department heads, estate managers and key suppliers are joining together to find new ways to reduce the company’s carbon footprint with the possibility of renewable energy sources at some pubs in the future. We have also introduced ‘Utility Champions’ within individual pubs to manage the day to day resources on site. Key members of staff will be tasked to conserve energy through efficiency from switching off lights when not in use, to turning the thermostat down a notch on a warm day. |
